Following the demolition of Yow Chuan Plaza for redevelopment, Narng Fa Thai Restaurant on its lower ground floor has re-opened at No. 259, Jalan Bandar 12, Taman Melawati - ie a corner lot near the banks, continuing with its tradition of authentic Thai food cooked by Niramol in an environment exuding an authentic Thai ambience.
A family run business, Niramol and her husband Thomas Teoh were in the food business when I first met them in the mid 1970s and tasted their delightful curry laksa under a tree behind Campbell Complex on what's now Jalan Dang Wangi in Kuala Lumpur.
In the 1980s they ran the Busakorn Thai Restaurant in the Jalan Telawi area of Bangsar and in the 1990s owned and operated Narng Fa below the 7-Eleven in Yow Chuan Plaza.
I never fail to love their authentic, pork-free, Thai Tom Yam, green curry and Thai deserts which blow away the fare you find in more expensive but less authentic Thai restaurants. At Narng Fa, you get excellent Thai food at modest prices which even students at the college nearby can afford.
Narng Fa is open Monday to Saturday, from 11am - 9pm. For further details call 603-4105 2757 or visit narngfa.blogspot.com
