I'm sure everyone has already heard that the All American Rejects performed at a concert in Bukit Jalil, car park A of Stadium Putra on saturday, 31st of october, halloween..
Digi were the main sponsors as they were promoting their new Digi Music where you pay 5 bucks a month and you will get unlimited music. thus, all who signed up for Digi Music during the few day stretch were given free tickets to this concert.. i was one of the many who got and am so glad i went. AAR has always been one of my favourite rock bands and i probably would have paid to get the tix if i had not got the free ticket anyway.
so what made this such a memorable concert?
i had gone for MTV World Stage and AAR were also there, but somehow.. they were tons better here even though they already were the best performers at MTV World Stage.
The Malaysian bands picked for the opening act: One Buck Short, Disagree, Pop Shuvit; arguably three of the best local bands.. so i have to say they were perfect choices. they got the crowd going and screaming and jumping to some of their hit songs.
BUT THEY WERE NOTHING COMPARED TO AAR. when they came out.. everyone screamed and jumped and cheered like they had no vocal restraints. the atmosphere was incredible. part of the crowd looked tired and worn out before they came out.. probably because they had been waiting in line for a few hours before the concert. but once AAR appeared, their faces lit up and even the ones who looked prim and proper were seen jumping and yelling.
Tyson, the lead singer, got the crowd pumped up with his whacky, insane and freaky style. cameras flashed countless times in his face, especially when he jumped down to mingle with some of the crowd, but nothing deterred him from his personalised style. he wore a Native American Headgear since it was Halloween and acknowledged some of the other dressed up party-goers.
they performed about 10 of their hit songs, mostly from their latest album. the crowd was jumping along to the beat, screaming along to every song and there were a few packs of headbangers going hard at it like they had all the energy in the world. AAR showed that they are multitalented as they also performed a couple of slow songs like it ends tonight and mona lisa.
by the second last song, it seemed like the crowd had run out of energy.. but their last song: Gives you hell; got the crowd energised and hyper again and some guys were seen shirtless on frens backs and pouring water over themselves.. oh wait, that was my fren.. some of the guys were being passed around like parcels for a few meters and then sent toppling to the ground by some cheeky youths. even then, nobody got hurt so it ended on a good note.. since gives you hell was their last song, the crowd left in high spirits.
sure the wait to enter was long, but when you are lining up with a bunch of frens and know you are about to witness one of the best concerts of the year, nobody gives a damn.
sure the jam out of the car park was crawling, but when you just came out of a memorable rock concert and on your way to the nearest mamak with frens, nobody gives a damn either.
all in all, it was and is something that i will cherish forever. I really really wanna relive saturday night.
